Catalytic Capital in Australia: Market Sizing Survey 2026

This survey is one component of a project that is seeking to understand the size, characteristics and future potential of the catalytic capital market in Australia. This project is an initiative of the Paul Ramsay Foundation and is being led by GoodWolf Partners. For the purpose of this survey, catalytic capital can be defined as:
"Capital that accepts disproportionate risk and/or concessionary return to generate positive impact and enable third-party investment that otherwise would not be possible."

Examples of Catalytic Capital may include:

Taking a first-loss or junior position in a capital stack to de-risk investments for other investors
Providing concessionary or flexible capital (e.g. below-market returns or longer time horizons)
Acting as an anchor or early investor to help mobilise additional capital into a fund or initiative
Offering guarantees or other risk-sharing mechanisms to unlock private investment

Who should fill out this survey?
This survey is intended for organisations and individuals involved in deploying, managing, supporting or benefiting from catalytic capital in Australia. This includes philanthropic foundations, government funds, family offices, corporates, fund managers, intermediaries, institutions and advisors. Please submit one response per organisation only.

The survey is best completed by someone with visibility over your organisation’s investment activity, such as a CIO, investment lead, portfolio manager, or equivalent. You may wish to consult internally to provide the most accurate responses. If your organisation manages multiple funds or vehicles, please provide a single aggregated response where possible.

The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Your responses will be kept confidential and used only for this project. While we collect your name and organisation, any reporting will be de-identified. All data will be securely stored and accessed by the project team at GoodWolf Partners only.
