Why We Are Doing This Work
Installing solar panels on buildings and properties (ex. rooftop, ground-mounted, plug-in or mini for balconies, etc.) requires multiple approvals and permits, including approval from your utility provider (SaskPower or Saskatoon Light & Power), a building and development permit from the City of Saskatoon (City), and an electrical permit. The City is reviewing this process to identify improvements that might make it faster, simpler, and more affordable, while still ensuring safety and quality.

What We Are Asking
If you're a property owner who has installed solar panels, a solar installer, a utility provider, or a subject matter expert, we want your feedback on the solar application and permitting process. Through this survey, we are looking for your feedback on:
  • Your experience with the solar application approval and permitting process.
  • Any challenges you’ve experienced with the current process, such as approval and permit time, complexity, or costs.
  • Ideas on how the City can improve and streamline the process.
