WSNA and King County Negotiations

Fork in the road – Which path should we take?

Please note, this survey closes on December 2. Your team has made several wins in negotiations so far, but we have not been able to secure any new longevity steps, which was one of our top priorities for these negotiations. As we approach contract expiration on 12/31/25, we need your input on whether we should take the wins we have bargained so far and wrap things up, or to keep fighting for longevity steps.
Here is a summary of gains so far in negotiations:
  • Wage increases of 3.75% for 2026, 3-4% each year for 2027and 2028 (depending on inflation)
  • Extension of reduced rate parking benefit for Jail Health RNs at KCCF.
  • Language prohibiting retaliation for recording missed breaks, and committing to working to remove barriers to reporting missed breaks. (staff CBA only)
  • Language prohibiting retaliation for raising staffing concerns (staff CBA only)
  • Language requiring posting of signs communicating the County’s zero-tolerance policy for workplace violence.
  • Increased bilingual pay.
  • Continuing education money will no longer be pro-rated based on FTE status.
  • Defended against attempted reduction of layoff rights.
  • Defended against attacks on limiting Paid Parental Leave.
  • Defended against proposals that would have made it easier for the County to make changes to teleworking.
  • Ability to file grievances over discrimination.
  • Payroll deduction for nurses who choose to make contributions to WSNA PAC.
After eleven months of bargaining, it is clear that as things stand now, the County won’t agree to increased longevity steps. Your team must decide if we should try to change that by letting the contract expire and building toward a January 1, 2027 strike threat, or if we should wrap things up. Our decision will be guided by the input of the nurses we represent.
