BSOC STEM Camp 2026 Registration

Why BSOC STEM Camp?

At Bright Side Opportunities Center, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and STEM Camp is where that journey begins. Our free summer camp is made just for middle school students, the age when kids start dreaming big about who they want to be and what they want to do. We want to show them that they can become scientists, engineers, doctors, coders—whatever they set their minds to.

Why do we focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)? Because STEM careers are some of the best ways to earn a good living. These are the jobs that are growing the fastest and paying the most, right here in Lancaster County. But too often, kids from families with fewer resources don’t get a fair chance to explore these paths. That’s why we’ve made our camp free and welcoming to everyone.

At STEM Camp, your scholar won’t just learn from books, they’ll build, create, explore, and discover. They’ll take part in exciting minds on, hands-on activities, visit local colleges, meet real professionals, and gain the confidence to dream bigger than ever before. Our camp follows the latest standards for education and is designed to build the skills young people need to succeed in school, in life, and in the workforce.

When you register your child, you’re not just signing them up for a summer camp—you’re building a brighter future. Together, we’re breaking down barriers, lifting up our youth, and investing in the future of our community. At BSOC STEM Camp, we’re not just preparing kids for tomorrow—we’re helping them lead it.
STEM Camp Focuses

Lead Free Camp (June 22nd- July 3rd):
Scholars will learn what lead is and why it’s harmful, including how it can affect the brain, behavior, and overall health. Identify common sources of lead exposure, such as old paint, water systems, soil, and household items. Engage in hands-on STEM activities, including water testing demonstrations, environmental observations, and safety experiments. Explore real-life solutions for reducing and preventing lead exposure in homes and communities. Develop leadership and advocacy skills by learning how to educate others and speak up for healthier environments. Work on team projects focused on creating awareness campaigns, safety plans, or community solutions. By the end of the camp, scholars will leave with a clear understanding of how to stay safe from lead exposure, confidence to educate their families and peers, practical tools to promote healthier living environments and a sense of responsibility and leadership in their community. The Lead-Free Futures Camp is designed to educate middle school students about lead, its effects, and prevention methods. Scholars will learn about lead sources, health effects, and prevention strategies, while engaging in community advocacy and environmental science activities.

Food Detectives Camp (July 6th - July 17th): Scholars will become informed food consumers and community changemakers through activities in nutrition, food safety, and food justice. Campers will learn how to decode food marketing, read nutrition labels, understand food additives, and practice safe food handling. They’ll also dive into real-world STEM challenges that explore the global food supply chain, food waste reduction, and sustainable gardening. By blending science, health, and advocacy, this camp equips youth with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices and contribute to a more food-secure future.

Drone & Flight (July 20th - July 31st): Scholars will be introduced to the exciting world of drones and flight technology through a hands-on, interactive learning experience. This session is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and exposes participants to real-world STEM opportunities. Learn the basics of drones—what they are, how they work, and how they are used in careers like photography, public safety, construction, and technology. Explore the science of flight, including key concepts like lift, thrust, gravity, and balance. Understand drone safety and responsibility, including basic flight rules and how to operate drones in a safe and respectful way. Engage in hands-on-activities, such as practicing with drone controls, participating in flight simulations, and (when available) operating a drone during guided flight exercise. Develop problem-solving and teamwork skills through challenges like obstacle courses and precision flying tasks. Discover career pathways and entrepreneurship opportunities in the growing drone industry.
