In order to better support fieldwork and families, the Archaeological Institute of America seeks to better understand the landscape of parental leave, child and dependent care, and fieldwork opportunities and challenges for caregivers.
Please complete this survey if you are an archaeologist who is, has been, or would like to be a caregiver or to provide information about your institution’s parental leave policy, regardless of whether you have or intend to have children. The survey contains specific questions about your employer's parental leave policies. It would be helpful to have your employee handbook or other relevant documents available before beginning the survey, but this section can be skipped if you do not have or wish to provide this information.
Anonymized results and comments may be used in conjunction with presenting the results of this survey. Preliminary results will be discussed at the 2026 AIA and SAA Annual Meetings.
