Sumter EMC Scholarship and Walter Harrison Scholarship
Students applying for the Sumter EMC Scholarship must be a senior attending a high school in Sumter EMC's eleven county service area. Applicants DO NOT have to receive power from Sumter EMC. Home school students who reside in a home served by Sumter EMC are eligible to apply. This scholarship is only open to high school seniors and can be issued to an out-of-state institution.
All students applying for the Walter Harrison Scholarship must live in a house that receives electric service from Sumter EMC. This scholarship is also open to students who are currently attending a college or university. This scholarship can only be issued to a Georgia institution. All applicants complete the same application for both scholarships. If you meet the criteria for both, your application will be submitted for each scholarship. The following information must be submitted for the scholarship application to be complete. You MUST complete this application in ONE sitting since you cannot save the application as you go. Please have ALL information filled in when you are ready to submit.
- College acceptance letter or other evidence to confirm admission to a college or technical school. If student is not yet accepted, you may submit this application, but proof of acceptance will be required at the time the scholarship is awarded.
- Two-page autobiographical sketch with reference to future plans and goals, as well as your involvement in the community. Do not reveal your name, the name of your cooperative, or your place of residence in the autobiographical sketch, as any such references will be marked out before being submitted to the judges, which will not make for an attractive, readable document.
- High school transcript or current college/technical school transcript (unless student graduated more than 10 years ago).
- SAT or ACT score. If you did not take the SAT or ACT, you may submit an ACCUPLACER score.
- Two letters of recommendation.
