The Carlisle & Eden, and West Cumbria Maternity & Neonatal Voices Partnership Groups would like to hear from you about your experiences of severe pregnancy sickness, 'Hyperemesis Gravidarium (HG)'. HG is a severe type of pregnancy sickness. It affects about 1 to 3 in every 100 pregnancies and can be more serious than regular morning sickness. If you have HG, you might feel constantly sick (nausea), vomit a lot, feel extremely tired, lose weight, and struggle with dehydration. Other symptoms can include acid reflux, constipation, too much saliva, headaches, and low mood. These symptoms can require hospital care. Unlike morning sickness, HG doesn’t always get better by 20 weeks.
We would like to learn about your pregnancy experience with severe pregnancy sickness, how this impacted on you and your family.
We are going to ask you some questions about how NHS staff supported you with your severe sickness/ HG during pregnancy. Everybody's experiences will be different so please include any details that you feel significant to you. This could include experiences with: Your Local GP; community midwife appointments; early pregnancy assessment unit visits visits to NCIC, Antenatal clinic/ ward and A&E; and other wellbeing contacts for support.
Thinking about your experiences can be difficult. Support is available:
