What is the Summer Algae Science Institute (SASI)?
Are you interested in giving your students more hands-on STEM learning opportunities? Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and learn more about algae? If so, please join us virtually at the Algae Foundation’s Summer Algae Science Institute! SASI for short.
SASI is a 1-day professional development workshop that walks you through the Algae Foundation’s K-12 Algae Academy curriculum. The Algae Academy’s FREE STEM kit and curriculum includes teacher resources, all necessary lab supplies, and live algae that will have your students asking big questions as they realize the real potential of algae.
Students cultivate algae, monitor its growth, analyze and interpret data, and make connections as to how algae production has a positive impact on the global environment. Or as we like to say, we take algae from “Ick!” to “Awesome!”
SASI is appropriate for K-12 STEM educators looking to offer hands-on, NGSS aligned curriculum to their students. The curriculum is available in Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. SASI participants will have the opportunity to teach the Algae Academy to their students in the 2026/2027 academic year in the Fall (October/November) or Spring (March/April).

- $50 Stipend for attendance
- I Love Algae T-shirt (the really soft kind)
- A complete walkthrough of the Algae Academy’s 5-part curriculum
- Algae Academy mini-kit shipped to your home so you can complete the lab (includes live algae)
- Guaranteed spot in 26/27 Algae Academy
After completing the SASI training, educators will feel fully confident in bringing the Algae Academy into their classroom and getting their students excited about the power of algae!
