OHS is a Volunteer organization.  We do not run a shelter or have paid staff: We all need to work together, with YOU as a volunteer too in the community, to provide rescue support for animals.

We need you to work with OHS to help with the process of capturing and caring for lost abandoned and feral cats or dogs throughout the Okanagan & Shuswap and will provide guidance on this.

Then: Once captured and safe, we provide access and cover the cost of low-cost spay/neuter, vaccination and de-worming, tattoo or microchip services for rescued cats and dogs through our partner veterinary clinics when they can accommodate us.

OHS does NOT have a Shelter or Paid Staff, please understand that we will do the best we can,  as quickly as we can,  but need YOUR help and cooperation to help rescue the animals!  If you can, also OFFER TO FOSTER so we can help more animals sooner.  This takes the place of a shelter and animals don't have to live in cages!

When you see or find a stray, feral or abandoned animal please help immediately by:
Providing food, water and shelter while waiting for assistance.
OHS is volunteer run, please be patient while we prioritize the most urgent cases first!  A volunteer will contact you by email or phone usually within 24-48 hours - check email (and your junk mail ) daily.  Keep animals safe, secure, fed and watered in the meantime,  inside or outside depending on the situation.
Call your local BC SPCA SHELTER or their Call Center at 1-855-622-7722 or RCMP  911 - for all animal emergencies, including neglect, cruelty, violence, or evidence of kitten or puppy mills and hoarding situations.

Kittens and scared, tame adults are fixed and rehabilitated in foster then rehomed. Truly feral (unsocialized) cats and kittens are also fixed and assessed for adoptability. Some feral adult cats are released back to the area they came from after recovery when deemed safe for them to be cared for there.

OHS is donation and volunteer run. Donations are tax deductible and go directly to medical costs for rescued animals. To volunteer or donate toward your rescue report please visit or website for further information:  https://okanaganhumanesociety.com/donate    Thank you for helping rescue local animals!
