Community and Stakeholder Survey

ForestrySA’s forest reserves are highly valued by local communities providing a place to enjoy many outdoor recreational activities and events. Improved health and wellbeing, through physical activity and social connections, are just some ways that nature-based recreation and participation have a positive effect on the community.

Our Mount Lofty Ranges region includes forest at Kuitpo, Mount Crawford and Second Valley. These forest reserves provide sustainable softwood production and native forest habitat for flora and fauna.

Their close proximity to Adelaide, just an hour’s drive from the city, also makes them a popular place to play. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to camp and enjoy hut-style accommodation, bushwalk, horse ride, mountain bike and take part in a host of organised community events, motor sport rallies and wedding ceremonies.

We recognise there are many opportunities to improve in relation to community and recreation opportunities and this strategy is to support a new way for ForestrySA, key user groups and the community to work together to enable improved access to better quality recreation spaces and facilities which ensure sustainable use of our forests and protect natural assets for the benefit of all South Australians.

We hope this strategy will guide direction and investment over the next 5 years and will:

  1. Identify new recreation opportunities or initiatives
  2. Support and maintain existing recreation activities
  3. Help ForestrySA allocate our available resources fairly
  4. Assist us to determine priorities for maintenance and upgrade
  5. Facilitate improved access to recreation opportunities
We would like to hear your thoughts on a future recreation direction and priorities for 2021-2026.

Please complete this survey to provide us with improved insights into how the community uses our forest reserves and facilities, what our community’s priorities for the future are, what is missing and what improvements can be made.

This information will inform the development of the ‘Mount Lofty Ranges Recreation and Tourism Strategy 2021-2026’.
