INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this section is to give you information that may affect your decision whether to say YES or NO to participation in this research, and to record the consent of those who say YES. Investigating Caregiver Identification, Cultural Justification for Caregiving, Resiliency, Religiosity, and Positive Religious Coping as Predictors of Well-Being in African American Adult Caregivers of Their Parents

DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH STUDY

Several studies have been conducted looking into the subject of African American adults who care for their parents and their cultural reasons for care, resiliency, caregiver identity, religiosity, positive religious coping, and the time spent in caregiving.

If you decide to participate, then you will join a study involving research of predictors of well-being in African American adults who are caring for their parents. If you say YES, then your participation will last for 15 to 30 minutes online.

EXCLUSIONARY CRITERIA

To participate you should be an African American 18 years or older who has been providing care for a parent for at least 3 months. To the best of your knowledge, you should not have been caring for someone other than a parent, or are under the age of 18 and do not identify as an African American that would keep you from participating in this study.

RISKS AND BENEFITS

RISKS: If you decide to participate in this study, then you may face minimal risk and are not considered to be greater than risks ordinarily encountered in daily life. And, as with any research, there is some possibility that you may be subject to risks that have not yet been identified.

BENEFITS: There are no direct benefits to you for participating in this study. Others may benefit from the findings, as they may provide direction in helping to inform strategies to reduce caregiver burden and identify proactive factors in the African American caregiver community.

COSTS AND PAYMENTS

The researchers want your decision about participating in this study to be absolutely voluntary. Yet they recognize that your participation does require some time. To incentivize participation, you will have an opportunity to be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card.
