OPINION SURVEY OF AMERICAN COUNSELING ASSOCIATION MEMBERS
(a collaboration between NBC and ACA)

Happy New Year ACA Members,

The journalists at NBC New York want to know how YOU are thinking about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on mental health.

Counselors are often among the first to see both the promise and the peril of new technologies as humans adopt them. AI is just the latest example.

This opinion survey is a chance for you to share your early observations about AI. And it is also a chance to share your forecasts for how AI may impact human development, human relationships, and human happiness - in the future.

AI technology is new. No one has all the answers. But counselors have unique insight into how AI is already being used in the mental health sector. . . and how clients are interfacing with chatbots and AI agents in their personal lives.

In short, your opinions and forecasts on AI can act as an early warning - about potential negative impacts but also highlight areas of great potential for AI to improve the human experience.

Please take a few minutes to answer the following survey questions.

Responses are anonymized and the surveyors will not be able to see names or contact information. In your open-ended responses please do not share information protected by client confidentiality or privacy rules.

In a few short weeks, NBC hopes to feature data from this survey - and some of your anonymous responses - in a series of news stories exploring:

* The use of AI in mental health settings
* Human relationships with AI chatbots
* Impacts AI may have on child and adolescent development
* AI and suicide/self-harm
* Anxieties surrounding AI's impact on education and career

Note: A portion of this survey discusses topics of suicide and self-harm. These topics can be emotionally challenging and difficult to process. Please remember your own mental health matters and you do not need to answer questions on these topics. Indeed, you can skip any question on this survey and still have your other responses count. If you are considering self-harm, help is available. Speak with someone today. Call 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
