Inquiry into access to and affordability of medical specialists in Australia - Member Survey

Consumers of Mental Health WA (CoMHWA) is seeking the perspectives of those with lived experience of mental health challenges and/or psychosocial disability who have accessed, or attempted to access, medical specialists. Medical specialists is a term used to describe medical professionals including, but not limited to, psychiatrists, cardiologists, anesthetists, oncologists, surgeons, ophthalmologists, and dermatologists. Your responses will guide us in providing feedback to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability's Inquiry and subsequent report on access to and affordability of medical specialists in Australia.

What is this Inquiry About? (Reproduced from Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability website)
The Committee accepted the Minister’s request to inquire into access to and affordability of medical specialists, including current levels of access and barriers, the effectiveness and equity of referral pathways, affordability of services including out-of-pocket costs in the private system and access through the public system, the impact on patient outcomes, and innovative and emerging models of care that may improve access for patients.

The survey is completely voluntary and if you choose, can remain confidential, and should take around 5-10 minutes of your time. You can skip questions you do not want to answer. Your responses will be used in the development of a submission paper, which will be provided as feedback to the Inquiry and will be published on CoMHWA’s website in later October.

The survey will be open until 5pm AWST, Sunday 4th of October 2026. If you need help filling out this survey, please call CoMHWA on 9258 8911 and ask for Charles, or email us at sysadvocacy@comhwa.org.au.

We want to say thanks for the time you've taken to do this survey. We have three $50 giftcards to give out - after submitting the survey, you will be given a codeword. Please call or email CoMHWA and tell us the codeword so we can put you in the running to win a giftcard. We are using this system so that your personal details will not be linked or traceable to your survey responses, so you can be anonymous.
