Help us build a clearer picture of pay and conditions in production companies
Performing Arts Forum and First Music Contact, together with other arts resource organisations, are continuing our work to advocate for fairer, more sustainable careers across the cultural sector. Your participation in this survey is essential.
The more responses we receive, the stronger the evidence base we can bring to Government, funders and partners.
We anticipate that this year the research will highlight the chronic under-resourcing of the sector resulting in the precarity experienced by artists, arts workers and arts organisations, unmanageable workloads and consequently the loss of skills, knowledge and talent as people leave the sector. The research results will be used to support advocacy for sustainable investment and to inform future policy and funding development.
This survey was developed with a panel of production companies and Creative Production Services providers. We are gathering reliable information on pay and conditions for employees, independent artists and freelance arts workers. The panel have asked us to explore the relationship between pay rates, production budgets and level of funding. To complete the survey you will therefore need details of your organisation's salaries and the fees and pay rates for each show you produced for performance in 2024.
If you are an independent producer and were responsible for more than four shows in 2024, please email irma@performingartsforum.ie for an accompanying Excel spreadsheet about the shows you produced. This will make responding quicker and easier for you. Please return the spreadsheet direct to our researcher heather@heathermaitland.co.uk. She will be the only person to see your data.
All responses are completely anonymous and will be reported only in aggregated form. If you are unsure of an exact figure, please give your best estimate.
