2020 Board of Directors Election | Official Ballot

The following slate of candidates is being advanced to all members by the current Governance Committee of the BID.

Please take a few minutes to review the slate of candidates listed below and vote by Thursday, December 17, 2020. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Kate Medhus at 518.465.2143 or via e-mail at kmedhus@downtownalbany.org.

The term is for two and a half years starting in January 2021 and expiring in June 2023. 

There is one commercial tenant director and one residential tenant director that members will be voting on. Only members or their designees shall be eligible to vote and shall vote only for those directors representing their own membership classes.  Per the BID Bylaws, Article I-Purposes, Section 3. Membership:

Class B:  (i) Commercial Tenants who are occupants pursuant to leases of office or retail space in a building that receives real property tax bills for such real property within the District shall be a Class B member of the Corporation provided such persons have applied for membership in accordance with Section 1e hereof; or
(ii) Residential Tenants who are an owner-occupied or occupant of a residential property (three or more units contained within the property) that receives real property tax bills for such real property within the District pursuant to a lease of a residential space.

Qualifications: In order to be eligible to vote on the BID Board of Elections, you must own, represent, or reside within a property that pays the special BID assessment tax. If you are not the designated representative, please pass this ballot along to the proper individual. Incomplete or illegible ballots will be discarded. Please fill out, sign, and return this ballot for validation.

Ballots must be submitted through this form, emailed, postmarked, or stamped as received by 4:30 PM EST on Thursday, December 17, 2020.

Angelo Maddox: Class B (i) Commercial Tenant 

Angelo Maddox is the Owner and Operator of Fresh and Fly Inc. where he has been providing the Capital Region with authentic brands of urban, athletic, and business casual clothing for the past 14 years. He holds a degree in psychology from SUNY Albany which he has put to good use over the past decade as the Founder of the S.W.A.G. (Succeeding With Attainable Goals) Program for at-risk youth where he is also a Public Speaker and Group Counselor. Previously, Angelo has worked locally as a Youth Care Counselor at both Parsons and the Northeast Parent & Child Society. His hard work has been recognized by both the Albany Business Review where he was named one of their 40 Under 40 and the Downtown Albany BID where he was presented with the inaugural Downtown Luminary Award. Angelo serves as the Secretary on the Board of Directors at the Community Loan Fund of the Capital Region and works with college students through the SUNY Albany Alumni Board of Directors.

Riley Ackley has been a resident of downtown Albany for over 4 years and is a Media Coordinator for the New York State Assembly where he supervises a team of media specialists. He is a graduate of SUNY Oswego with degrees in both Public Relations and Political Science and has experience in managing social media accounts, photography, campaigning, writing, editing, creating promotional material, and soliciting sponsorships, among other things. Since moving to downtown Albany in 2016, Riley has seen firsthand how the community has transformed into something incredible. He feels as though he has greatly benefitted from the opportunities presented in Downtown and is looking forward to giving back and serving his community.
