The Community Social Planning Council (CSPC) is recruiting volunteers to take part in the 2023 Point-in-Time Count (PiT Count), a count of people experiencing homelessness in Greater Victoria on Wednesday March 8th, 2023. The PiT Count will be held between Noon and 11:59 pm both inside housing facilities and out-of-doors on the streets.

Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy is a community-based program aimed at reducing and preventing homelessness.

Officially launched April 1, 2019, this federal homelessness program is supporting the most vulnerable people in the Capital Region by improving access to safe, stable and affordable housing. The CRD is the Community Entity for Reaching Home Designated Communities funding and administers these funds in the Capital Region.

By volunteering for the PiT Count you will help gather information that will assist planners, funders, and agencies develop appropriate responses to homelessness in our region as well as measure progress in ending homelessness.

We hope you will participate in the PiT Count by completing the application form. Please feel free to forward this invitation to people you think would be interested in taking part in the PiT Count.

We are looking for volunteers who are:
• Compassionate, accepting and enjoy one-on-one conversations with people
• Have a non-judgmental attitude and a good sense of humor
• Outgoing, curious and have a pleasant manner
• Experienced in front line service delivery (although not necessary to volunteer)

What is involved? The PiT Count involves conducting a brief, anonymous survey with people who are experiencing homelessness. The shelter survey is conducted inside shelters and the outside count is conducted out-of-doors, walking around a specific area or neighborhood. Each volunteer must attend a two-hour training session and must be 19 years of age or older.

Once you have completed this application form someone will be in touch to complete the application process, to confirm training dates, and to provide more information about volunteer schedules, locations, and tasks.

If you have any questions about the Point-in-Time Count, please feel free to get in touch with PiT Count Coordinator, Lauren Davis at lauren@communitycouncil.ca
