RDFS and the CBI-12 Examining Connection

Before beginning, we would like to provide you with information about the initial questions you will be asked.

As part of this study, you will be asked to provide basic demographic information (such as age, gender, and similar items) as well as answer a small set of additional questions designed to help us determine whether you meet the eligibility criteria for participation. Collecting this information is important for ensuring that our study includes the appropriate participants and that the findings are accurate and meaningful.

Your responses will be kept confidential. Data will be stored securely and only accessed by the research team. Any information that could directly identify you will not be shared in publications or presentations. Participation in this screening process is voluntary. You may skip any question you do not wish to answer, and you may withdraw from the survey at any time without penalty.

The following section includes the main survey questions related to this study. These questions focus on your experiences, perspectives, and opinions. Unlike the previous section, these are not used to determine eligibility, but rather form the core data for our research.

Please answer each question as openly and honestly as you feel comfortable. Remember, all of your responses will remain confidential and will only be used for research purposes.
Relational Depth Frequency Scale (RDFS)
For each statement below, indicate how often you have experienced this in your close relationships of the past month. Use the following scale: 1 = Not at all; 2 = Only occasionally; 3 = Sometimes; 4 = Often; 5 = Most of the time

Connection Behavior Inventory (CBI-12)
Rate each item from 1 (Not at all true) to 5 (Very true) based on your behavior over the past month for your 3–5 closest relationships.
9.I make time for face-to-face meetups (coffee, walks, meals) with my closest connections.(Required.)
10.I intentionally plan shared activities that allow for quality conversation and presence.(Required.)
11.I give my full attention during in-person time (e.g., minimal phone use, active listening).(Required.)
12.I call or video chat with close connections at least once every week or two.(Required.)
13.I use calls/video to have deeper conversations rather than only logistical talks.(Required.)
14.I respond promptly to calls or voicemails from my close connections.(Required.)
15.I regularly send personal texts to check in, share updates, or offer encouragement.(Required.)
