We are interested in your thoughts on single-use plastic bags provided by stores at check-out.
Recently, stores have been prohibited from giving out throw-away, single-use plastic bags and straws in a number of municipalities, counties and even states. The reasons: these bags are plastic waste that release chemicals harmful to human health, add to litter, end up in trees and bodies of water, are burned with other trash and cause air pollution, and are not a sustainable use of resources.
Some stores provide heavier, reusable plastic bags, sometimes charging for them. These are pro-environment if used several times, but if thrown away (as they often are), they are even less sustainable than single-use plastic bags.
