The Butte County Planning Division is gathering community input on potential land uses in the unincorporated areas of Butte County. Your feedback will help guide future planning decisions and how certain activities may be regulated.
Home Businesses - Businesses people run from the comfort of their homes. Common examples: daycares, nail techs, bakers, barbers, groomers, therapists, etc.

Short Term Rentals (STR) - Homes or rooms people rent out for short stays (30 days or less). Usually used by business travelers & tourists on vacation.

Recreational Camping: Camping for fun in tents or RVs on campgrounds or on private rural property.

- Short-term camping: 14 days or fewer per year, no permit required.
- Long-term camping: 180 days or fewer with a permit.

Recreational camping is separate from temporary housing and disaster recovery housing.

Online Recreational Camping Reservations: Websites like Harvest Host and Hipcamp let people rent out their land for camping. Right now, the County doesn’t allow any online recreational camping reservations.

- Harvest Host: businesses rent out spaces for self-contained RVs, for 1 night only stays on-site. Example: golf course rents spaces for overnight RV stays on Saturdays.

- Hipcamp: Airbnb for campgrounds/ sites for tents and or RVs, on private property (usually no utilities). Example: reserving a campsite while on a weekend cycling trip through the countryside.

Online camping reservations are separate from temporary housing and disaster recovery housing.

Recreational Glamping-A fancier kind of camping where people stay in yurts (nice tents) or cabins. Sort of like at a hotel, meals and activities may be included.

Glamping is separate from temporary housing and disaster recovery housing.
