The Virginia Nursing Workforce Center is pleased to announce the formation of the Virginia Nursing Workforce Center Advisory Board. This board will play a pivotal role in advancing the health and wellness of Virginia's residents by ensuring a resilient, diverse, and well-supported nursing workforce.

Board members serve a two-year renewable term by recommendation, attend at least 3 meetings annually, and participate in at least one strategic initiative or taskforce committee.

All applications will be reviewed and finalized by: December 1, 2025 in order to host the first board meeting February 2. 2026 immediately following 2026 General Assembly session.

I. Purpose & Vision

The board serves as a strategic partner to the Virginia Nursing Workforce Center, guiding policy, partnerships, and innovation.
II. Strategic Pillars

Data and Research Advance the collection, analysis, and dissemination of nursing workforce data to inform evidence-based planning, policy development, and resource allocation across the Commonwealth.
Education and Workforce Development Strengthen nursing education pathways, licensure mobility, and career advancement strategies to build a resilient and well-prepared nursing workforce.
Policy and Collaboration Promote alignment across academic, clinical, and regulatory sectors to support coordinated workforce initiatives and inform policy decisions that impact nursing practice and access.
Public Engagement and Outreach Elevate public awareness of nursing workforce challenges and opportunities through strategic communication, advocacy, and stakeholder outreach that fosters community support and investment.
III. Core Functions of Advisory Board Members

  • Contribute to the development and advancement of statewide nursing workforce strategies in partnership with the Nursing Workforce Center.
  • Evaluate and recommend innovative approaches to nursing education and practice pipelines that strengthen workforce readiness.
  • Review and interpret workforce data to inform strategic planning and policy recommendations.
  • Promote public awareness and actively engage stakeholders to elevate nursing workforce priorities across Virginia.
IV. Roles and Responsibilities of Board Members

The following outlines the roles and responsibilities associated with membership on the Virginia Nursing Workforce Center Advisory Board. By submitting an application and accepting an appointment to the board, applicants acknowledge and agree to fulfill the duties described herein, as well as any additional responsibilities reasonably assigned during the term of service. Such additional responsibilities may be proposed by the Director of the Nursing Workforce Center, Board Chair, or Co-Chair, and shall be subject to approval by a quorum of the board. All roles and responsibilities are subject to annual review and amendment as deemed necessary by the Director and board leadership.

  • Advise on statewide nursing workforce strategy and policy.
  • Strengthen nursing education and practice pipelines.
  • Contribute to interpretation of workforce data (supply/demand, education levels, retention trends).
  • Build consensus across academia, practice, regulation, and industry to shape policy and funding.
  • Identify and support grant opportunities, pilot programs, and scholarship initiatives.
  • Attend at least three board meetings annually in person and participate in the annual strategic planning for the Nursing Workforce Center.
  • Serve on at least one committee or strategic initiative or taskforce committee.
  • Support fundraising or in-kind contributions to advance board initiatives that will support scholarship opportunities across the Commonwealth.
  • Uphold confidentiality and act in the best interest of the Virginia Nursing Workforce Center and its mission.
