Help us learn about the people who work in our field.

Thank you for participating in the National Survey of History Practitioners. This study, conducted by the Public History Research Lab of the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH), seeks to better understand the roles, demographics, compensation, and perspectives of the people working or volunteering at history organizations, including history museums, historic sites, historical societies, and related organizations. This survey is intended only for practitioners at history organizations.

Your responses will help build the most comprehensive picture to date of those who work and volunteer at history organizations across the United States. The study’s findings will contribute to advocacy efforts, institutional planning, and to a stronger, more sustainable field.

The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Thank you for helping us better understand and support the people who power public history.

Confidentiality notice
Your participation in this survey is voluntary and confidential. Your individual responses will be anonymous and seen only by AASLH research staff and our contracted data analyst. Your responses will never be shared with your institution. Data gathered from this survey will only ever be reported in aggregate form.
