David Levine
Bio:
David Levine, PT, PhD, DPT, MPH, FAPTA, is a Professor and the Walter M. Cline Chair of Excellence in Physical Therapy at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He has been working and conducting research in many fields including electrophysical agents since the early 1990’s. He continues to practice in outpatient physical therapy in addition to his university position. In 2018 he was named a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association. Dr. Levine has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings with over 130 publications. He currently serves as the president of the Biophysical Agents (BPAs) Special Interest Group of the APTA and has been active in its mission. In the past year the SIG held a successful pre-conference course at CSM and has made strides in educating physical therapy professionals on the value of BPA’s, and optimal ways of utilizing them in a multi-modal approach to patient management. He is also a board member of the International Society for Electrophysical Agents in Physiotherapy, a specialty group of World Physiotherapy. His research focuses on the use of extracorporeal shockwave therapy in rehabilitation, electrophysical agents, caregiver burden, exercise in stroke survivors, sleep interventions for stroke survivors, and rehabilitative interventions for individuals with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Rita Ator
Bio:
Dr. Rita Ator is the Director of Clinical Education and an Assistant Professor within the DPT program at Midwestern University. She is also a PRN physical therapist for Purposefully Home home health care. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1987. She received her transitional doctorate in Physical Therapy from Evidence in Motion in 2011. Additionally, she holds a certification in Athletic training for which she received her training at Eastern Illinois University with completion in 1985. She is currently accepted into the dual degree program at the University of Indianapolis for a Master’s in Aging Studies and Doctor of Health Science. Dr. Ator has worked primarily in outpatient orthopedics for 33 years, in home health physical therapy for 20 years, and in a subspecialty area of lymphedema for more than 20 years. She has been a clinical instructor for over 30 years, served as adjunct and guest faculty in the athletic training curriculum at North Central College for 20 years, and has lectured on a variety of orthopedic-related topics. She has served as facilitator and examiner for the athletic training certification from 1990 until its reorganization in early 2000s. Dr. Ator is a board-certified specialist in orthopedics, certified in manual therapy through IAMT, is dry needling certified, a certified Cancer Exercise Trainer through the American Academy of Sports medicine, and a certified Holistic Certified Manual Lymphedema practitioner. Rita is active in the American Physical Therapy Association and a Red Cross and American Cancer Society volunteer. Additionally, Rita is an avid hiker, walker/runner, and participates in multiple book clubs and studies.

Bio:
I am a candidate for re-election as the Nominating Committee Chair of the Biophysical Agents Special Interest Group. I have been an APTA member since 1977, and I am one of the founding members of the BPA SIG. I am a professor of physical therapy at Stockton University where I teach students the appropriate and effective use of biophysical agents. My current research is investigating the clinical effectiveness of neuromuscular electrical stimulation for muscle strengthening. If re-elected to this position I will recruit SIG members to be candidates for SIG officer elections. I believe I can be an effective Nominating Committee Chair based on my past success at this position and my contact with many colleagues in physical therapy, in particular colleagues who are interested in maintaining biophysical agents as an integral part of physical therapy practice.
