Project Purpose
The North Foothills Bikeway is a proposed 11-mile separated, hard-surface bikeway connecting Boulder and Lyons along US 36. The project will create a safer and more comfortable route for people biking and walking while improving regional connections. Before completing this survey, please review the May 2026 Public Feedback Boards on the project website: https://boco.org/NorthFoothillsBikeway

Project Objectives:
– Reduce severe and fatal injury crashes involving cyclists and pedestrians.
– Provide a dedicated facility separated from motor vehicle traffic.
– Improve connections between Boulder, Lyons, and regional trails.
– Expand access for both transportation and recreation.

US 36 has more fatal crashes between cyclists and motorized vehicles than any other road in unincorporated Boulder County. A bikeway would greatly increase cycling safety and motor-free access to trails and connections to popular cycling routes. The bikeway be mostly on public lands running adjacent to US 36 (mostly on the eastern side) with 20–30 feet between the bikeway and the highway. In areas where geography limits space, protective barriers will be installed between the bikeway and the road.

We are collecting detailed feedback from the public on four focus areas (map below) to understand community priorities and preferences and to ensure that the North Foothills Bikeway is accessible and comfortable for all users. Community input will be considered alongside technical analyses and additional information from key partners to determine the best design option for each focus area.

The survey will ask for your preference, input, and ideas on the design options that are "Under Further Evaluation." For more information on how all potential design options were evaluated, please refer to the May 2026 Public Feedback Boards.
