Smoking Habit Survey

Researchers from Birmingham Voluntary Services Council (BVSC) are working with the City Council’s Public Health Division, to explore the experiences of adults (16+) who use tobacco products. Please take the time to read this information sheet about the project.

What is the purpose of the project?

Birmingham City Council’s Public Health team seeks to understand the reasons behind higher than usual tobacco use in five specific wards: Bartley green, Castle Vale, King’s Norton South, Garretts Green, and Oscott (you don't need to live in one of these wards to complete the survey)

Understanding the factors affecting smoking prevalence and quitting in Birmingham will help in the development of interventions to reduce prevalence to achieve the goal of Smokefree generation by 2030.

Do I have to take part?

It is up to you whether or not to take part. If you do decide to take part please read through this information sheet. All completed surveys will be analysed, and we cannot remove specific data after submission because the survey is anonymous .

The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

What are the benefits and potential risks in taking part?

We do not anticipate any risks in taking part. You may skip any question you choose not to answer and if you don’t wish to continue, simply exit the survey. Incomplete surveys will be deleted before analysis.

Where will the information be stored and how long will it be kept for?

The data from all responses will be analysed and represented in a final report. The data will be stored securely at BVSC for a maximum of five years.

What will happen to the results of the project?

The findings from the research will be used to create a report that will be shared with Birmingham City Council Public Health Division and may also be summarised in published articles and presentations.

Who is organising and funding the research?

The project is funded by Birmingham City Council Public Health division and organised by BVSC Research.

Thank you for your help.
