Consent Form
Purpose:
You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by Frederick Edwards Jr., a doctoral candidate at Trevecca Nazarene University, under the supervision of Dr. Scott Eddins and Dr. Nikolas McGehee. The purpose of this study is to better understand college students’ motivation and learning-related behaviors in higher education.
Voluntary Participation:
Your participation is voluntary. You may stop at any time and for any reason without penalty or negative consequences. If you would like previously submitted survey responses omitted from the study, you may contact the researcher using the contact information below.
Explanation of Procedures:
If you agree to participate, you will complete an online survey that asks general questions about your background and about your learning and study behaviors and motivation. The survey will take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete.
Confidentiality:
This survey is being collected through SurveyMonkey, which uses security measures (including encryption) to collect and store data. While no online system can guarantee absolute security, the risk of interception is considered low. Your survey responses will be downloaded for analysis and stored in password-protected files on a password-protected device accessible only to the researcher. Results will be reported in aggregate (group) form to protect privacy.
Discomforts and Risks:
Risks are minimal. A potential risk is accidental breach of confidentiality, though steps are taken to reduce this risk as described above.
Expected Benefits:
You may not receive a direct benefit from participating. Your participation may help improve understanding of motivation and learning processes in higher education.
Use of Research Data:
Results may be used for scientific and educational purposes such as a dissertation, presentations, or publications. Individual responses will not be reported in identifiable form.
Approval of Research:
This study has been reviewed and approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Trevecca Nazarene University.
