Community Survey - Development of a Region -wide Flying Fox Roost Management Plan

Community Survey

Mount Isa City Council is developing a long-term Flying-Fox Roost Management Plan (the Plan) for flying-fox roosts within the region. Conservation efforts are in place to protect flying-fox populations under various acts, including the Nature Conservation Act 1992. Your valued feedback is important to inform the Plan.

Queensland is home to four species of flying-foxes — the black, grey-headed, little red, and spectacled. Flying foxes, sometimes known as fruit bats, regularly visit Mount Isa local government area. Council is preparing the Plan to assist in reducing impacts of flying-foxes on the community, whilst also noting flying-foxes important role in the ecosystem (spreading pollen and seeds). The Plan will focus on known and potential flying-fox roosts that, at times, conflict with human settlement. These roosts are located across the city and prone to the Leichardt River region and joining tributaries and include the locations:

Historically, Sunset Memorial Cemetery
Lagoon Creek – Duchess Road
Breakaway Creek – Sunset/pioneer region

Council is seeking your valued feedback with this survey, and your responses will be used to inform the Plan. The survey consists of multiple choice and optional short answer responses. It will take up to 10 minutes to complete.
Survey responses will be broadly summarised in the Plan. Your responses will not be identifiable, and your details will not be published, shared, or used for any other purpose.
