Have your Say - CLOSING 5PM FRIDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2017

The NSW Government (through Transport for NSW) has contacted Moree Plains Shire Council to consult with us on the potential deregulation of the Moree-Sydney Air Service Route. We have been asked, in turn, to consult with the Moree Plains Shire community in relation to this on behalf of Transport for NSW.

What outcomes will deregulation bring?
The NSW Government expects that deregulation of the Moree-Sydney route will provide an opportunity for us (Council) and the Moree community to work more closely in developing services that best meet the community’s needs. Transport for NSW considers that deregulation is an opportunity for councils to directly negotiate with operators to determine which airline best meets the needs of the community, rather than through the NSW Government.

Moree Plains Shire Council has released a fact sheet in relation to this which can be found on our website and Facebook pages.

* 1. Are you a resident of the Moree Plains Shire?

* 2. For the 2016 calendar year, which category best describes your use of the Moree-Sydney or Sydney-Moree air service?
For the purposes of this question, a return flight is classified as 2 flights

* 3. The NSW Government recently reviewed the regulatory arrangements for some routes within NSW without a current service. In each case, the NSW Government reduced red tape by removing the requirement for a licence and making it easier for airlines to consider new services. Since deregulating 4 Sydney-linked routes in 2015, new services have started on 3 and there has been operator interest in undertaking services on the fourth.

The NSW Government is now considering extending deregulation to the Moree-Sydney Route.

The Moree-Sydney Route is currently regulated, operated under an air transport licence which will expire on 29 March 2018 (unless varied, revoked or suspended sooner). Transport for NSW considers that deregulation is an opportunity for councils to directly negotiate with operators to determine which airline best meets the needs of the community, rather than through the NSW Government.

Would you prefer for the Moree-Sydney Air Service Route to be deregulated?

* 4. Would you like an opportunity to discuss this further at a Town Hall Meeting in Moree?
(Depending on the level of interest, a Town Hall Meeting will be held on the evening on Thursday 23 February 2017)

* 5. Is there any other feedback you wish to provide?

* 6. If you would like to keep in touch with Council regarding developments in relation to this matter, please provide your email below

Thank you for participating in this survey
