Community Resilience Center in Downtown El Centro Survey

The City of El Centro is inviting residents to complete a community survey that will help shape a proposed Community Resilience Campus near the southeast corner of State and Sixth streets.

The City is seeking $10 million through the California Strategic Growth Council’s Community Resilience Centers Implementation Grant Program. The proposed campus would include a Community Resilience Center and a new fire station designed to strengthen emergency preparedness and response while providing year-round services and programming for the community.
Community input is an important part of the grant application process. Survey responses will help the City identify residents’ priorities and develop a facility that reflects the community’s needs during emergencies and throughout the year.

Potential uses for the Community Resilience Center include:

Emergency shelter and evacuation space
Cooling center operations during extreme heat
Clean-air refuge during dust storms and wildfire smoke events
Backup power and emergency communications
Emergency supply and resource distribution
Community meeting and training rooms
Emergency preparedness programs
Health and wellness activities
Workforce development programs
Other community-serving resources

The survey will remain open until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026.
