The Lord Morris Award for outstanding contribution to inclusion: vote for your choice of most worthy recipient from our shortlist
The Lord Morris Award is in memory of Lord Morris of Manchester. A Vice President of Phab, Lord Morris dedicated his life to campaigning for the rights of disabled people. The Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act which he piloted through Parliament, and which became law in 1970, transformed not only the lives of millions of disabled people but the attitudes of society at large towards all disabled people.
He continued his work in the House of Lords as a Life Peer, campaigning for better rights for disabled people and his passion and legacy will never be forgotten. The Award recognises outstanding contributions to the development and promotion of Phab’s aim of inclusion.
Our shortlist of 2026 nominees for this Award - all of whom are proud members of the Phab community family - are detailed as follows:
- St Helen's School - For more than 40 years, the school has championed Phab’s values of inclusion and friendship through volunteering, fundraising, and inspiring generations of young people to extend Phab’s impact far beyond the school community. It is deeply involved in delivering Phab programmes and provides volunteers at Phab residentials, fundraises for Phab, has hosted Phab activities for many years, and works to create inclusive opportunities for disabled and non-disabled young people.
- Westminster Phab - An annual residential programme run by Westminster School in partnership with Phab, bringing together disabled and non-disabled people to build friendships, confidence and independence through shared activities and experiences. During a week in July, they run creative workshops, trips around London, social events and a final showcase, all designed to promote inclusion, personal development and fun in a supportive community.
- Anyone Can - An inclusive outdoor adventure organisation established in 2019 after recognising the lack of opportunities for disabled people to enjoy outdoor adventures with family, friends and peers. Through activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, caving, hiking and more, they help disabled and non disabled people experience the outdoors in an accessible and supportive environment. They also work with Phab to deliver inclusive climbing and fishing days.
- Meet 'N' Match - A specialist friendship and dating service for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, helping people create meaningful relationships, build confidence and reduce loneliness. Since 2016, they have supported people across Lancashire and Greater Manchester through tailored matching, social activities and relationship training designed to help people form lasting connections.
Mersea Island Festival - Established in 1981, this is an inclusive annual camping and activity festival on the Essex coast that brings together children, young people and adults with and without physical or learning disabilities each August. It offers a wide range of accessible outdoor, creative and social activities designed to build confidence, independence, self-esteem and friendships. It has a longstanding connection with Phab.
