Legislator of the Year Award 2026 |
In recognition of the responsibilities and challenges of public service, NCCAA has established an annual award to recognize the outstanding service and contributions of an elected official who has significantly advanced the cause of Community Action in North Carolina. Nominees may be submitted by Executive Directors, board members, or staff of NCCAA member agencies. The legislator must:
- Support initiatives that benefit low-income individuals and families.
- Champion policies and programs that support the mission and goals of Community Action.
Basis of Award
Selection for this award is based on the following criteria:

- Policy Advocacy: Leadership in supporting and advancing legislation, initiatives, and/or funding which directly benefits Community Action and low-income communities served
- Collaboration and Engagement: Leveraging expertise and networks in partnership with NCCAA and/or member agencies to address the needs of low-income communities.
- Public Outreach and Transparency: Participation with NCCAA, member agencies, and/or low-income communities to receive input/feedback on proposed legislation that may impact low-income communities.

This award recognizes legislative contributions within the calendar year preceding the NCCAA Annual Conference.
