Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet - Fire Smart Program Survey

Public Input for Wildfire Mitigation Strategy

The wildfires of 2025 significantly impacted our municipality and our residents. Wildfire risk mitigation is a key priority for the municipality. Everyone has a role to play to help reduce fire risk and prevent future loss. As such, the RM of Lac du Bonnet is developing a Wildfire Mitigation Strategy that we ask all residents to support and participate in. Here's what we are working on, and how you can become involved...
1. A specialized company is being contracted to conduct a Community Wildfire Assessment to determine existing risks and mitigation strategies that would work in our area.
2. A Wildfire Mitigation Strategy will be developed and implemented based on the recommendations from the assessment.
3. The Fire Smart Program will be a cornerstone of the strategy that residents can use to manage vegetation in areas where structures are built in the forest (i.e. rural housing).
To help us gauge public understanding and current/future usage of the Fire Smart Program, we would ask that you complete the following survey to help us determine ways the RM can better inform and support area residents.
The survey will only take 5 minutes to complete and is being administered by Community Futures Winnipeg River (third party). Questions can be directed to John Fleming, Emergency Coordinator at mec@lacdubonnet.com.
Survey deadline is April 30, 2026.
