Artificial intelligence in haemovigilance survey
1.
Baseline demographic questions
Dear colleague,
The Haemovigilance Working Party of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) in collaboration with the International Haemovigilance Network (IHN) and Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT UK) are exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in haemovigilance activities around the world. To understand use of AI for haemovigilance, we are conducting a survey which will be followed up by virtual interviews with some of the survey responders. We are interested in understanding if and how AI is being used globally for various aspects of haemovigilance, as well as the concerns, challenges, and opportunities AI presents. We will be inquiring about AI, which could include ChatGPT and other large language models, as well as any system/algorithms capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence such as understanding language, recognising patterns, and adapting to new information.
We are pleased to invite you to participate in this important survey and learn about your experience using AI in haemovigilance. This survey is made up of multiple-choice questions that should take less than 30 minutes of your time. Participation is completely voluntary. All responses will be anonymised regarding responder details in any reports related to the survey and your data will be handled per the ISBT privacy policy. You may terminate your participation at any time. Your decision to participate or not participate will not affect your relationship with ISBT, IHN, SHOT or any professional organisation. Only de-identified aggregated information will be shared at scientific meetings or in medical journals.
For those interested in further participation, we also plan to offer 1:1 virtual interviews following the survey to further explore this topic. If you are willing to be interviewed, please provide your contact details at the end of this survey. You are not obligated to provide contact details or participate in the interviews.
If you have any questions about this survey study, please do not hesitate to email ISBT via drgpatidar@gmail.com; IHN using this email: secretariat@ihn-org.com ; or SHOT via SHOT@nhsbt.nhs.uk. We will aim to get back to you within 5 working days.
Thank you for taking the time to read this information and for considering taking part in our survey. Your responses will help inform future educational and improvement activities to enhance transfusion safety.
