Local Government Remuneration Survey 2026

Introduction

Welcome to the LGEA’s Remuneration Survey. This survey will play a key role in helping us gain a clear picture of how well the current employment conditions within the industry are serving engineers and other professionals working in local government across NSW, Victoria and Queensland. Our members have a strong interest in building the professional capacity of local government to help deliver sustainable infrastructure and other services to our communities.

The responses from the survey will inform the LGEA Remuneration Report 2026, which is relied upon to increase transparency in pay and conditions for professionals throughout the local government industry.

The LGEA has been undertaking this biennial survey since 2008, with the report becoming the most comprehensive and detailed analysis of pay and conditions for local government professionals. This year, the survey will expand beyond NSW to include professionals working in local government across Victoria and Queensland, providing an even broader picture of remuneration trends and conditions across the industry.

For this report to be a useful tool we need as many professionals working in local government to complete this survey so we strongly encourage you and your colleagues to take part.

Please note - while the information gathered in this survey will be used extensively to inform the report, only general aggregate information and findings will be reported and all individual responses will remain confidential. Data collected in this survey will be handled in accordance with Professionals Australia’s privacy policy.
