Manatee County Comprehensive Plan - Public Comments

Manatee County has been working to develop its 2026 Comprehensive Plan to define priorities that lead the County in future decision making, focusing on everything from the environment to building development.

This Comprehensive Plan establishes specific objectives and goals to address future needs, while balancing development and preserving the area’s culture, urban, rural, coastal, and riverine communities.
1.Please fill in the following information.
Future Land Use Goals: Manatee County has adopted Future Land designations and located those throughout unincorporated Manatee County with the intent to limit urban sprawl; provide a predictable and functional urban form; encourage development and redevelopment in existing urban core areas and within existing and proposed nodes (as identified within this Plan); and allow public facilities and services to be provided in a relatively cost efficient manner.

Environmental Goals: Protection, preservation, and enhancement of the natural resources of Manatee County for quality of life for residents and visitors.

Transportation Goals: Provide a multimodal transportation system that serves to increase mobility, safety, convenience, and efficiency; meets present needs; protects roadway capacity; and is coordinated with and integrated into the Regional Transportation Network.

Other/Additional Goals: There are nine other elements that will be addressed as part of the Comprehensive Plan. These include embracing the County’s unique coastal, riverine, and mix of urban/suburban/rural communities; balancing development and preservation of the area’s historical, cultural, and economic features; providing recreational spaces and other public facilities; supporting capital improvements to meet needs based on projected growth; etc.
