What is happening?The Village is updating its Official Community Plan (OCP), one of Lions Bay’s most important guiding documents. At the same time, the Village will make changes to align the Zoning Bylaw.
- The OCP describes the long-term vision for the community. It helps guide decisions about housing, land use, transportation, environmental protection, climate action, and more.
- The Zoning Bylaw is a regulatory document that helps achieve the OCP vision. It defines what can be built and how land can be used.
The OCP and Zoning Bylaw work together to manage and regulate new development.
Why now?The current OCP was written in 2008, and the Zoning Bylaw in 2017. This update will refresh and align the documents to make sure they can respond to key issues and changing conditions.
The Province of BC now requires OCPs to be updated every five years, so there will be regular opportunities to check in and ensure the plan still reflects the community’s needs, trends, and priorities.
What is the timeline?Over the next several months, we will update the OCP with community input, research and technical analysis through three phases:
- Explore (Spring - Summer): Complete background research and engage the community.
- Refine (Summer - Fall): Draft content for the OCP and Zoning Bylaw and engage the community once again.
- Adopt (Winter): Finalize and adopt the updated OCP and Zoning Bylaw.
