You are ineligible if you have previously received a CLIFF-GRADS grant.
Preference will be given to students applying for opportunities outside their home country/country of study to encourage the building of global networks and connections through this programme.

Application deadline and notification: The last day to apply for the Round 7 CLIFF-GRADS Scholarship is Sunday 11 January 2026 at 11:59 p.m. GMT. You may only submit one application. Please ensure you have prepared the necessary documentation when you begin your application. Successful applicants will be notified by April 21, 2026.

Application instructions and required documentation: CLIFF-GRADS is a very competitive scholarship. We are unable to consider applications that do not meet the exact application requirements. Therefore, please read the student call for applications carefully to ensure that we do not disregard your application.

There are 77 CLIFF-GRADS research stays being advertised in this call. After reading the call document, you must list up to three research visits for which you wish to apply, in order of preference, before beginning this application form.

You can find the call document HERE.

We will only consider applications that include a single merged PDF document with the following:
i) your motivation letter as per the call document guidelines,
ii) a single page research CV, and
iii) a letter of support from your PhD research supervisor.

Previous winning candidates: In their motivation letter and CV, previous winning CLIFF-GRADS candidates have clearly outlined how their PhD research is relevant to the research visits for which they were selected. The most competitive applicants clearly demonstrated how their scientific, academic and personal skills made them the strongest candidate for their preferred research visits.

Selection criteria: The winning candidates will be selected based on the following three criteria:
i) overall level of research experience,
ii) relevance of PhD thesis topic or other research experience, and
iii) clarity of description of how the CLIFF-GRADS experience will improve your scientific capability and contribute to your career.

Application instructions are outlined clearly in the call for applications advertised on our website. If you have any remaining questions you may contact the Programme coordinator at cliffgrads@globalresearchalliance.org
