Kootenay Backcountry Access: Your Input on Road Use, Recreation & Wildlife Conservation Matters |

BC’s Ministry of Water, Lands and Resource Stewardship (the Province) has initiated a research project in the Kootenay-Boundary Region to better understand local citizens’ frequency and use of roads and trails for accessing outdoor activities and their perspectives on managing motorized and non-motorized access for the purposes of protecting wildlife and their habitats.
Responding to the survey is an opportunity for citizens in the Kootenays to let us know what they think about access management in their area. The responses to the survey will be used to design future access planning processes that are inclusive of the diversity of perspectives in the area, and will not be used to immediately inform any specific management decisions.
Prior to any future changes to access management, the Province would undertake an independent engagement process with communities, First Nations, and stakeholder organizations.
We recognize that citizens of this province are deeply passionate about the topics covered in this survey, including wildlife and habitat stewardship, and access to the backcountry for recreation and the enjoyment of nature. We are working hard to find a balanced approach that supports people’s access to the backcountry while protecting the environment and ecosystems.
We encourage you to share your personal opinions based on your experiences. Your responses will be considered as individual perspectives and will not be attributed to any organization you may be affiliated with.
We appreciate your time. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and will be open until Sunday, April 27th. All responses provide important information, so we encourage you to answer all questions. Your responses will be kept confidential.
We are committed to ensuring the privacy and security of the data collected through this survey. Please do not provide any personal information in your responses. If any personal information is collected in this survey, it will be subjected to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. All survey data will be aggregated and reported in a way that protects individual anonymity. The collected data will be stored securely, accessible only to authorized personnel for analysis purposes.
We truly do want to hear all perspectives and thank everyone for taking the time to participate in the survey.
