Welcome and Consent

Raby Castle, in partnership with H360 at Durham University, are exploring the contributing factors, prevention and response to flies in historic houses. We are hoping to gather information from across the UK to understand experiences and inform future research which looks towards prevention and mitigation strategies.

You are being invited to take part in research on the impact of flies in historic houses in the United Kingdom as you may have experience of this. In order to help you decide if you would like to take part, please read the information below which outlines what it will involve. If you would like any further information, please contact Davina Thompson (davina.thompson@raby.co.uk).

Your participation in this project is voluntary - you are free to decide if you would like to take part or not. If you do decide to take part, you are able to withdraw without giving a reason prior to 1 April 2026. After this date the research will be discussed and may be written up and submitted for possible publication and it will not be practical to withdraw. If you choose to take part, you will be asked to check a box, enter your name and select today’s date to indicate your informed consent.

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete a 24 question online survey which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. There is a low risk to you as a participant for taking part. There is unlikely to be a personal benefit to you for taking part, however the information received is hoped to be used to benefit future research.
This survey is hosted by Survey Monkey, who will store the data according to their Privacy Notice and Security Statement. The data collected will be viewed by Davina Thompson, colleagues at Raby Castle and members of the H360 Team at Durham University. Data will be retained in accordance with Durham University’s Research Data Management Policy. Information collected by this survey will be reviewed and used to inform future research. It may also be used for publication and presentation in related journals and conferences. Data will be used in aggregate and it is unlikely an individual participant will be identifiable. Every effort will be made to provide as much confidentiality as possible - only in exceptional circumstances might raw data be examined by other staff.
If you would like any further information or you have any questions about this research, please contact Davina Thompson (davina.thompson@raby.co.uk).
Thank you for considering taking part.
