KW88 Gift Award Application - Instructions

The KW88 Gift Award has been created to honor Kathy and her wishes to help young women who have made a commitment to play the game of golf. A game she not only loved and but she would later become the winningest professional golfer in the world. The KW88 Gift reflects her experience as a 19 year old struggling financially to follow her dream of playing golf professionally.
After just one year on the LPGA Tour with a scoring average a little above 80, Kathy Whitworth was having doubts about her professional golf career and the financial hardship that comes with it. Her parents encouraged her to come home to Jal, New Mexico for the weekend and discuss it together. So, gathered around the kitchen table with Kathy and her parents were a few local business leaders who rallied around Kathy. They reaffirmed their faith in her abilities and encouraged her to continue. In addition, they put together a modest fund to enable her stay on tour for three years. This support gave Kathy the freedom to do her best. And indeed, that is exactly what she did by amassing 88 wins and becoming the winningest golfer EVER.

The KW88 Award is given to young women who have demonstrated a commitment to professional golf, and expressed a need for financial assistance in the pursuit of their professional golf dream, and their desire to achieve their goals.
Application Process & Timing

November 16: Finalists are determined
November 17-December 2: Interviews conducted

December 21/22: KW88 Gift Award Recipients notified
This year there will be five (5) recipients, each receiving a Gift of $5000.
*Kathy Whitworth Foundation is the 501c3 distributing the KW88 Gift Award.
Prior recipients of the KW88 Gift Award are not eligible for a 2nd time.
Mission: The foundation is committed to inspiring young women to embrace confidence,
strong values, and responsibility which will in turn provide opportunity to develop leadership and sportsmanship skills for life-long success.
