Two Hearts, Different Signals: Sex-Based Differences in Cardiovascular Disease.

Consent Form

You are invited to participate in a research study that examines differences in cardiovascular disease awareness, symptom recognition, and prevention behaviors between males and females. You are being asked to complete this survey because you are 18 years of age or older.

Participation is voluntary. You may choose to participate or not, and you may stop at any time without penalty. The survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes or less to complete.

What will you be asked to do?
You will be asked to answer questions related to your general knowledge of cardiovascular disease, awareness of symptoms, engagement in prevention behaviors (such as physical activity and routine healthcare visits), and basic demographic information, including biological sex.

Risks and Benefits:
There are no known serious risks associated with participating in this study. Some questions may involve personal health awareness and may feel slightly uncomfortable; however, you are free to skip any questions you do not wish to answer.

By participating, you may contribute to a better understanding of how cardiovascular disease affects males and females differently. The findings may help improve education, prevention strategies, and awareness efforts related to cardiovascular health.

Confidentiality:
Your responses will be anonymous. No identifying information such as your name, email, or contact details will be collected. Only members of the research team and authorized staff at Laredo College’s Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (PIE) will have access to the data to ensure the study is conducted ethically and your rights are protected.

Data will be stored securely and retained for three years after the study concludes, in accordance with federal regulations, and then destroyed.

Use of Results:
The results of this study will be used for academic and research purposes to better understand sex-based differences in cardiovascular disease awareness and prevention behaviors. No identifying information will be included in any reports, presentations, or publications.
