The NASIG Model Digital Preservation Policy Working Group, announces the release of its Model Preservation Policy for public comment. The Model Policy is available for public comment from August 16, 2021 until November 30, 2021.
The Working Group, composed of volunteers from NASIG, the Library Publishing Coalition, and the Society for Scholarly Publishing, have developed the model preservation policy for use by organizations that are involved in scholarly communication. Digital preservation policies are crucial for supporting and sustaining and can identify the financial, technical, and human resources required to preserve digital materials over time. They also help to ensure the preservation activities of an organization are repeatable, visible, and transparent to stakeholders.  Such a policy is useful for organizations of any type, whether the organization is just beginning to contemplate digital preservation, or is evaluating existing policies or systems.

The Model Digital Preservation Policy Working Group members look forward to receiving input from community members that they can address before NASIG publishes the Model Policy in 2022.
