1. JSA Sportsmanship Award Nomination
50% |
The MITCHELL S. WEEKS TROPHY is presented by the New York Yacht Club and is awarded annually by the JSA of LIS for sportsmanship in the Club 420 (skipper and crew separately), and ILCA 4, ILCA 6, and ILCA 7 boat classes.
Nominations may come from the juniors sailing Club 420s and ILCAs or from their coaches and other junior program leaders.
The Weeks Trophy promotes awareness that the true benefits of sport come from the integrity, courage, and fairness with which the game is played. It’s awarded annually to the JSA of LIS sailors who are most respected by their peers. These sailors always use good clean racing and skill, no matter if it's win, lose or draw, and you’re left thinking they are good people to race against.

Ask yourself, "Who stands out in my mind for sportsmanlike sailing during the season?" Does a name quickly pop up? If so, jot it down and think again for another deserving name in a different boat class. Nominees will embody the sportsmanlike characteristics of honor, integrity and a selfless dedication to the sport.
When nominating, please keep in mind your candidates’ behavior over the season, not just a single regatta. Your choices for the double-handed skipper and crew do not need to be from the same boat. Please include specific examples of ethical behavior (including integrity, courage, and fairness in sailing competition). Approximately 100 - 150 words for each sailor is sufficient. You may compose your nomination(s) offline, then copy/paste into the survey comment box. No further supporting documentation is required now.
You may nominate in as many categories as you know deserving sailors. You may leave some categories blank if you wish.
