The BROOKE E. GONZALEZ MEMORIAL TROPHY is awarded to a young woman who demonstrates sportsmanship, exceptional ethical behavior and dedication to the sport of sailing, combined with outstanding achievement in sailing competition.
Nominations may come from sailors, parents and club junior program instructors/leaders.
Brooke Gonzalez was admired among her peers for her enthusiasm for sailing, beginning with Optimists, through Blue Jays, Lasers and finally International 420s. These attributes led her to be Commodore of the Junior American Yacht Club and a leading force of the US International 420 Sailing Team, for which she competed in two world championships. Her bright smile and obvious excitement for sail racing was seen by many people at clubs all over the Sound. Brooke's friends collaborated to create this trophy to keep her memory alive. She epitomized the qualities of sportsmanship, ethics and compassion while sailing aggressively in the world's top ranks and serving as an outstanding representative of her club. By her superb example, she helped develop these qualities in others.
When nominating, please keep in mind your candidate's behavior over the season, not just a single regatta. Approximately 150 - 200 words for your nomination is sufficient. You may compose your nomination offline, then copy/paste into the survey comment box. No further supporting documentation is required now.
