Background
From its rise to prominence during the War of 1812, its home to the first planned military post in the country at Madison Barracks, to its current status as a vibrant lakeside community, Sackets Harbor has a rich heritage that our community strives to honor while also embracing our path forward in modern times.
Over the years, the citizens of Sackets Harbor have banded together periodically to prepare “community visioning” plans, which detail what we see as our community’s priorities across a number of categories. We prepared our last Community Visioning plan in 2003, so it’s time once again to reflect on our past and present and make plans for our future.
Today’s Challenge
An ad hoc committee was put together this past winter to lead this new visioning process through community discussions. Our goal is to shape a strong future for Sackets Harbor through collaboration, transparency, and meaningful discussions with our entire community — your voice is essential in this process.
To include as many Sackets Harbor residents, workers, interested parties, and regular visitors as possible, the committee has scheduled three Community Conversation & Visioning workshops this spring. The schedule and topics are:
· Wednesday, May 6, at 6 pm, at the SHCS Multi-Purpose Room, to discuss Recreation, Housing, and Resource Development
· Thursday, May 21, at 6 pm, at the SHCS Multi-Purpose Room, to discuss Historic Preservation and Zoning
· Thursday, May 28, at 6 pm, at the SHCS Multi-Purpose Room, to discuss Madison Barracks Connections and Support
We’re conducting a Community Survey in coordination with these meetings to be sure we don't miss feedback from anyone who'd like to provide it.
