We are glad that you found the way to this survey! We are a group of adults who work for international organisations that aim to make children`s rights a reality. Today we want to learn more about your experience and views regarding children`s participation in global events. We want to learn from you to find ways to make these events more child-friendly, inclusive, safe, and useful.
What is a global event? Sometimes, adults from different countries meet in large groups to make decisions on issues that affect the lives of people in their country or even the entire world. This can relate to education, climate change, health issues, child labour or other issues. These events have different names. Sometimes they are called a “World Conference”, “Summit”, “Global Forum” or a “Ministerial Conference”. Prior to the end of such global meetings there is usually a written report of the main agreements. There may also be promises to give money to put the decisions made into practice. Sometimes, children are invited to join these global events to share your views. This happens because you have a right to be heard when decisions are made about matters that affect your lives.
What is this survey about and how will the findings be used? With this survey, we are asking children across the world about how children can best be involved in these global events.
The results received will be discussed in a small group of adults and children in order to develop a draft list of guidelines to help ensure participation of children in global events that is child-friendly, safe, inclusive and impactful.
Then a meeting of adults and children will follow in Belfast (Northern Ireland) at the end of November 2024 to finalise this list of guidelines. At the end of the Belfast event, these guidelines will be adopted by the participants (adults and children) and then hopefully used as the basis for good practice in children`s participation in future global events!
You can take part in this survey if:
· you participated in a global event when you were under 18 years old
· you did not participate in a global event but are interested to share your ideas about children`s participation in these events
· and you are currently aged 8 - 24 years old
All answers will be treated confidentially and anonymously, which means that no one can know what answer you give. You have time until 18 October 2024. We thank you so much for taking the time to participating in this survey!
We will share survey insights and the final guidelines on this page.
