Application for STFM CBME Certificate of Distinction: Adaptive Coaching in GME

Learning Community Commitment
The CBME Certificate of Distinction is committed to fostering an inclusive learning community that reflects the diversity of family medicine educators and the communities they serve. We welcome applications from educators of diverse racial, ethnic, geographic, institutional, and professional backgrounds and are committed to maintaining a respectful, psychologically safe learning environment that supports mutual growth.

Please read through the following expectations and acknowledge your commitment to complete the program requirements.
Required Program Components
Pre-Immersion Preparation
(December 2026 – April 2027 – approximately 2 hours/month)
  • View all five monthly webinars (live or recorded) prior to STFM 2027
  • Complete five asynchronous monthly coaching learning sets released beginning December 2026, before STFM Annual Spring Conference in May 2027

In-Person Immersion Course
(May 1, 2027)
  • Attend the 7-hour preconference session held in conjunction with the 2027 STFM Annual Spring Conference (Registration for the full Annual Meeting is not required.)

Longitudinal Participation and Time Commitment
(June 2027 – March 2028)
Participation Requirements
  • One monthly 60-minute mentor coaching session from June 2027 through March 2028: 10 sessions total. Participants must attend at least 80% (miss no more than two sessions).
  • One every-other-month 60-minute coach supervision session in July, September, November, January, and March: five sessions total. Participants must attend at least 80% (miss no more than one session).
  • Five 30-minute, one-to-one peer coaching sessions with an assigned partner. Peer partners will be assigned during the in-person immersion course and will schedule these sessions together.
  • Commit to attending your chosen group’s dates and times (exact dates will be given at enrollment for you to give your preferences)
Anticipated Meeting Times
Each participant will attend only one longitudinal group. To help applicants determine whether they can meet the participation commitment, the preview of anticipated meeting times are listed below for each group:
  • Group 1: Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. ET
  • Group 2: Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET
  • Group 3: Thursdays, 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET
  • Group 4: Thursdays, 1:00 p.m. PT / 4:00 p.m. ET
Those accepted into the program will receive the specific meeting dates and give preferences for their group during enrollment.


Additional Program Requirements

  • Develop a self-reflective SMART goal for continued growth
  • Complete required pre- and post-program knowledge assessments and surveys
  • Review and sign an informed consent document related to the program evaluation study
  • Participate in dissemination of learning through scholarly or educational activity at the local, regional, or national level
  • Submit one written coaching encounter sample for educational feedback (not for grading)

  • Support for your participation in required program components
  • Acknowledgment of the required in-person immersion session held in conjunction with the 2027 STFM Annual Spring Conference (7-hour preconference session)
Programs are encouraged to provide appropriate protected time and institutional support to enable participation.
