1. Introduction

Welcome to the 2025 annual IIM Interim Management Survey - our 16th edition.

You are about to embark upon one of the most important data driven tasks of the interim year – your response and time is fully appreciated by the IIM. It helps make this one of the most sought-after insights into our industry. It remains so due to the high response rate we get annually, which is the bedrock of this market-wide survey. The contribution you make here enables the quality of the survey to be sustained for the benefit of all those with an interest in our market.

Each year we refine our approach from your feedback on the survey format and scope and the team continue to improve the survey so that together, we can keep this the best source of market information in the UK. This year, there are 2 fewer questions and a number of adjustments/clarifications as a result of the usual comprehensive content review. Last year saw about 20% of respondents indicate they had worked through umbrella companies at some point in the previous 12 months, so we will be looking a little further into the evolution of this commercial methodology this year.

The Small Print.....

Survey Timing

The scope of this survey is the twelve-month period from April 2024 to March 2025.

The survey is open from Tuesday April 1st, will run throughout April and close on Wednesday April 30th at 23.59 pm.

The Survey ISP (Interim Service Provider) rankings will be released on Thursday 22d May from 11.00 am on the IIM's Voice of Interim Management LinkedIn Group and on "X" (formerly known as Twitter).

The full Survey Report will be published in mid June on the IIM website.

We recommend completing the Survey in one session, we estimate a little over 20 minutes should do it.


Participants
This survey is intended to be completed only by Interim Managers and Executives, broadly defined as independent people operating at or near board level who are 'normally' on gross day rates of £500+ (or gross equivalents if on Fixed Term Contract - FTC - or Fixed Project Fees basis), except for certain Public Sector interims (e.g. NHS) with gross rates sub-£500 equivalent per day.

If you are otherwise a contractor (typically sub-£500), a consultant, a prospective interim manager, an ISP or client, or are a permanent member of staff, then we have no questions for you at this time (but thanks for coming by).
Personal Data and Survey Validation
For your reassurance, all survey answers are completely confidential and secure. We only ask for your name and email address if you wish to be contacted by the IIM for the purpose you choose - the IIM will not link your contact details in any way to your survey answers.

The IIM does not sell or release personal information to third parties. Your name and email address, if provided, remain 100% confidential.

In 2024 we enhanced the validation of survey participants to further assure the quality of the survey findings for all contributors and the interim industry as a whole. We now ask you, as standard, to provide your LinkedIn profile URL, which is already in the public domain. We do not use it for any other purpose and again, do not link your LinkedIn profile in any way to your answers.
