The Indy Arts Council, in partnership with Pacers Sports & Entertainment and the Indiana Fever, is commissioning a mural honoring women's professional basketball, and specifically the Indiana Fever franchise, for the newly constructed Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center (IFSPC).

Earlier this year we held a statewide open call for interested artists and received 65 eligible applications, which were carefully reviewed. Three finalists were selected whose style and approach matched the vision for the mural. The finalists are:

Concept by Alex Ann Allen: "Dream Work Legacy"
"“You dream for it, you work for it, then you create your legacy”. This mural celebrates dedication, teamwork, and the passing of inspiration from one generation to the next. The perspective draws viewers into downtown Indianapolis with excitement, energy, and momentum. Two three-point court lines bring a dynamic futuristic feel to the basketball court, while the eagle of Lady Victory overlooks and protects the city above. The broken basketball net captures the intensity, confidence, and unstoppable energy of Indiana Fever basketball. Designed like a picture frame, the mural creates an immersive and memorable photographic moment." -- Alex Ann Allen

"This mural positions Indianapolis as the epicenter of women’s basketball by celebrating not only elite player performance but also the ecosystem of women who shape the game across Indiana—from girls in youth, high school, and college programs to fans, mothers, coaches, trainers, staff, local leaders, and organizations like the Indiana Fever. The figures represent these broader roles within the game, detailing a Fever fan's lifelong evolution.

The figures are based on a reference photoshoot with real, anonymized Hoosier women who have diverse backgrounds, identities, and connections to Indiana basketball across the roles mentioned. I intentionally selected models that reflect both the state's diversity and the evolving culture of women’s basketball, with the goal that viewers of all types can see themselves reflected in the mural.

The women are depicted in strong, iconic stances, facing the viewer and occupying space at scale, unified by a shared message: “I’m here. I’m ready. I’m game.”

The design incorporates Fever-inspired colors and jersey references from 2000 to the present, alongside Indianapolis landmarks like Lady Victory."-- Koda Witsken

Concept by Siena Baldi: "Centropy"
"Centropy celebrates awe-inspiring women athletes, towering above as larger-than-life mythical beings whose love of basketball transcends any specific team. The middle figure holds a basketball surrounded by a Kilanova, a colossal cosmic explosion. Centered in the design is a circle, the beloved symbol of our city, made of a basketball net and concentric circles that expand like ripples or tree rings, alluding to the inclusive, expansive fan base of the Indiana Fever.

The lower third of the design layers abstract imagery to represent the immense invisible work that athletes put in behind the scenes. The words “Know No Bounds” grow upward as an encouraging message for sports and life: shed limiting beliefs and chase your dreams.

Centropy, the opposite of entropy, conveys energy buildup that creates harmonious order.

Instead of depicting landmarks, this design captures the electrifying excitement that unites us like nothing else. Sports are powerful rollercoaster rides of emotion. Basketball’s pace and poetry take that ride to an eleven.

I hope people feel emotional when viewing the design, the way they feel emotionally connected to watching basketball. My goal is for people who love basketball to see themselves reflected in the arts, because Public Art belongs to us all." --Siena Baldi
