PPN Community and Voluntary Representative - Nomination Form
The Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) for Housing brings together both elected members and other interests such as the trade unions, environmental, social inclusion, community & voluntary sectors, construction and business community to formulate, review or develop policies related to council services.
This involvement from relevant interests enables the SPC to best prepare the groundwork for policies which are then decided on by the Local Authority. This model of working provides elected members with external views to assist them in their strategic role in the development of the Local Authority.
Strategic Policy Committee Functions
The following sets out some of the topics that may be covered by Housing SPC but it will depend on the annual work programme that is normally agreed by the SPC at the start of their term.

- Allocations / Accessibility / Priority
- Housing Construction / Refurbishment Programme
- Homeless Strategy
- Housing Strategy – Rebuilding Ireland
- Repair and Leasing Scheme
- Social Housing Leasing Initiative/Rental Accommodation Programme (RAS)
- Housing Assistance Payment (HAP)
- Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme
- Energy Efficiency Works
- Voluntary Housing
There are 17 members of the Housing SPC as follows:
- 10 Elected Members
- 1 representative from Business / Commercial Sector
- 1 representative from Development /Construction Sector
- 1 representative from Trade union
- 4 representatives from Public Participation Network (2 Community and Voluntary seat, 1 Social Inclusion seat and 1 Environment seat)
