OVERVIEW

The W.E.B. Du Bois Honors Program experience is one that offers students both exceptional academic and extracurricular opportunities. These opportunities are designed for students (of all majors) who are intellectually curious, capable, and interested in making the most of their time at Huston-Tillotson University. The staff members of the Du Bois Honors Program are dedicated to assisting students achieve their academic and personal goals.

The goals of our W.E.B. Du Bois Honors Program are as:
  • To motivate academically gifted and talented students
  • To foster intellectual independence and the pursuit of academic excellence
  • To intensify the learning experience at Huston-Tillotson University
  • To prepare students for graduate schools and professional careers
  • To promote lifelong learning

INSTRUCTIONS

Take 15 to 30 minutes to complete the W.E.B. Du Bois Honors Program scholarship application. Application can be saved and finished in multiple seatings.

Only 1 application submission please. Do not submit more than one application. Incomplete application is immediate disqualification.

WRITING SAMPLE
Write an essay indicating why you want to become an Honors Scholar in the W.E.B. Du Bois Honors Program at Huston-Tillotson University.

Ensure the following is met:
(1) Elaborate on the contributions of Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois's to society? Clearly articulate why Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois is important to both society and Huston-Tillotson University?
(2) Link your academic and extracurricular qualifications to the scholarship of Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois;
(3) Expound upon why you believe you would be a good candidate for the W.E.B. DuBois Honors Program at Huston-Tillotson University, and how you can contribute to the success of the Honors program.

Format: approximately 600 to 800 words type-written pages, double-spaced, 1” margins using Microsoft Word


LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATIONS
-Letter #1: High School Principal or High School Counselor
-Letter #2: Senior Year Teacher or Community Leader


Applicants that do not identify 2026 high school graduate, rather a risinb Sophomore (current freshmen) at Huston-Tillotson are welcome to submit the following letters of recommendation:
-Letter #1: Fall 2025 Full-time Faculty
-Letter #2: Fall 2025 Full-time Faculty, OR University Staff or Administrator (Director or Vice President status only)
(Note: While a freshmen-based cohort program, highly qualified non-transfer students may have the opportunity to join the Honors Program at the end of their freshman year. Acceptance is not guaranteed.)

DEADLINES
- Priority Selection, submit by 11:59pm CST February 13, 2026
- Program Selection, submit by 11:59pm CST February 27, 2026

Note: late applicants may still apply, however considerations will only be made should a spot become available
